Type Studies - Solar Mirage

Solar Mirage is a vintage-inspired display typeface that blends retro elegance with modern sophistication. Its high-contrast letterforms and flowing curves evoke the cinematic allure of classic Hollywood, desert highways, and sun-drenched landscapes. Perfect for movie posters, editorial designs, and bold branding, Solar Mirage captures a sense of nostalgia while remaining effortlessly stylish in contemporary layouts. The goal was to highlight how this expressive typeface can bring a stylish, nostalgic feel to branding and editorial design.

  • Solar Mirage is designed for creatives who crave a typeface that balances vintage charm with modern sophistication. From editorial spreads to cinematic posters, this high-contrast display font captures the essence of sun-drenched nostalgia and bold elegance. Perfect for designers, luxury brands, and entertainment projects, Solar Mirage brings a timeless yet contemporary edge to any visual composition. Whether gracing the cover of a magazine or lighting up a marquee, this font commands attention with effortless style.

  • The process started with researching fonts that I found interesting. After finding a few fonts from which I wanted to draw inspiration, I began sketching the font letters. I then rendered the letters in Illustrator and created an all-uppercase font. After the font was created, I started designing mockups of businesses I thought fit with the typeface. I also recreated an album cover with the font.

  • Design Problems: I had a lot of trouble making the font, choosing where to start, and deciding how extravagant I wanted it to be.

Design Solutions: Making a Pinterest Board helped a lot when deciding what kind font to make. The Pinterest Board and the Pantone website also helped a lot with the color palette.

  • Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
